Downtown Baton Rouge, otherwise known as The Downtown Development District (DDD), is a subdivision located in Baton Rouge.  There are 5 major neighborhoods located in Downtown Baton Rouge –Beauregard Town, Historic Spanish Town, Capitol View North, Central Business District, and Downtown East. Residents of Downtown Baton Rouge enjoy a wide array of amenities, including over 60 restaurants, entertainment venues, and art galleries, along with greenspaces where large events are held.

Shopping & Dining

Residents of Downtown Baton Rouge have a wide array of shops and services, all within walking distance.  There are 6 grocery stores, which include Downtown Grocery on 3rd St., Our Daily Bread on 5th St., and Spanish Town Market.  If you need a bit of pampering, there’s a number of salons and spas, such as Cosi Bella Studio, Massage Emporium and Salon Dolce. And there’s no reason you can’t stay in shape with local gyms such as Anytime Fitness and the Charles W. Lamar, Jr. YMCA. Round it out with other convenient services and there’s really no reason to have to leave the area to take care of your personal or professional business.

When it comes to spectacular food in Downtown Baton Rouge, there’s no shortage of choices. Blend offers fine wines with an ever-changing menu, set in an eclectic environment.  Lucy’s Retired Surfer’s Bar & Restaurant serves up delicious California-inspired dishes. For outstanding sushi and Japanese fare, Tsunami is a must. Other great places to dine include Jambalaya Shoppe, Raising Cane’s, TaylorMade Gourmet and King Bar and Bistro, just to name a few.


Downtown Baton Rouge also offers a great variety of attractions and events to keep you entertained. Attractions include museums such as Louisiana Art and Science Museum, Capitol Park Museum, Odell S. Williams Now and Then African American Museum, Arsenal Museum, and the LSU Museum of Art. Other attractions include the Old Governor's Mansion, Shaw Center for the Arts, and the Louisiana State Capitol. And if you enjoy a good festival, then you can look forward to annual events such as Live After Five, a series of 16 concerts held in spring and fall, Louisiana Marathon Weekend, Mardi Gras Parades, and more.


The public transportation system in Downtown Baton Rouge offers a convenient way for residents to move about the area and in and out of Downtown Baton Rouge. There are total of seven public transportation routes in Downtown.  There are four Capitol Area Transit routes, the Capitol Park Trolley, two LSU Tiger Trail Routes, the Downtown/LSU Vet School Route and LSU Night Route B.
