Upcoming November Events in Baton Rouge

There's no end to the fun in Baton Rouge, and these upcoming events this month of November prove it. There's something for every taste in these events, so get ready to have a great time with friends, family, and neighbors.

Here's what we have to look forward to:

15th Annual Louisiana Book Festival
Nov 10 | 9am - 4pm

Come on over to the Capitol Park area for the 15th Annual Louisiana Book Festival. More than 250 authors will be in attendance discussing their books. Enjoy more than 150 special programs, plus live music and cooking demos. 

Wild Day at the Rowe
Nov 10 | 10 am -1 pm

Experience the wild side of The Perkins Rowe town square during Wild Day at the Rowe. The event features animal encounters with help from Friends of the Baton Rouge Zoo. 

White Light Night
Nov 16 | 
6-10 p.m.

It’s time to enjoy the Baton Rouge art scene with the White Light Night in the Mid City Art & Design Cultural District. Meet talented local artists and enjoy live music as you shop and eat your way through Mid City.

ZooLights
Nov. 23 – Dec. 30

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo. The annual ZooLights returns Friday, Nov. 23, with a mile-long zoo trail illuminated with more than 50 festive holiday displays.

Festival of Lights
Nov 30 | 7-10 pm

Mike the Tiger Habitat

Who doesn’t love tigers, especially Mike the tiger? Mike is the famed mascot of LSU and enjoys his life in a lush habitat that covers 15,000-square feet of space. There have actually been several tigers that have been the live mascot of LSU, with the current Mike being the 7th, with the first one in 1934 known as the “Ole War Skule.” Bring the whole family to see this majestic cat and learn about their history.

Capitol Park Museum

There’s something for everyone at the Capitol Park Museum. As their website puts it “From Louis Armstrong to Huey P. Long, from Mardi Gras to fais-do-do, and from the nation-building commerce of the Mississippi River to the life-sustaining bounty of the Gulf of Mexico, the Capitol Park Museum provides a panoramic exploration of the most vibrant state in America.”

Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

If exploring nature is more your thing, then Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is the ideal place to take your family.  This 103-acre facility focuses on conservation, education, recreation and tourism.  They also feature a 9500-square-foot building filled with live animal exhibits, along with photographic presentations of the site's flora and fauna, natural artifact and mineral displays, and a sizeable, vintage waterfowl decoy carving collection.

Baton Rouge Zoo

You can’t beat a great zoo for keeping the family entertained. In addition to viewing the animals, you can enjoy twilight tours and other events throughout the year.  You can spend more than a few hours viewing the more than 944 animals and birds, along with  a children's area, tram and train rides that make this zoo perfect for the whole family.

Celebrate Our Freedom This Independance Day in Baton Rouge

The 4th of July is almost here! Now is the time to plan how you’re going to celebrate our nation’s independence in Baton Rouge.  And if you’ve lived in Baton Rouge for any length of time, you already know that our 4th of July celebrations are some of the best on the country.  So get ready to have fun and celebrate freedom with these events coming up on July 4.

ANNUAL FIREWORKS SHOW

What could be better than fireworks over the Mississippi River? This Baton Rouge tradition brings thousands of people each year to witness the spectacular display.  You can bring a chair or blanket and watch from the water front.  Or you can watch from the many attractions and venues along the waterfront that are hosting viewing events, such as the USS Kidd.

KENILWORTH INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE
Kenilworth Neighborhood| July 3, 2018 | 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM

Join the community of Kenilworth for their Annual Independence Day Parade.  The pageantry is enjoyed by thousands of spectators, who are showered with beads, trinkets, and candy by the parade participants. The parade route runs along Kenilworth Parkway, and includes a range of civic groups, bands, and veterans groups.

RED, WHITE & BLUE CELEBRATION
LSU Museum of Art-Shaw Center for the Arts | July 4, 2018 | 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Join the LSU Museum of Art-Shaw Center for the Arts as you watch the annual fireworks on the Mississippi from atop the Shaw Center for the Arts' Pennington Rooftop Terrace. You’ll also enjoy food from Capital City Grill and music from Premier Sound Services. $45 for nonmembers, $35 for members, $30 for children 6–12, free for children 5 and under.

USS KIDD'S FOURTH OF JULY SPECTACULAR!
USS Kidd Veterans Memorial and Museum | July 4, 2018 | 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM

For over two decades, the ISS Kidd has been hosting this family events to celebrate our independence. And what better place to celebrate than on this historic ship, restored to her original configuration from WWII.

Party to live music from 80's band Werewolf, along with an open bar and much more.

Zippy’s Fundraiser Event

Help raise money for a good cause at Zippy's.  There will be fun giveaways, drink specials and free champagne at midnight.

This famous parade in the Kenilworth Neighborhood is in it's 45th year, and features mix of local civic groups, military and veteran's groups, bands, and political and government organizations celebrating the 4th of July.

Red Stick, White & Blue Celebration | July 4, 2017 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Come to the Shaw Center for the Arts' Pennington Rooftop Terrace to view the annual Fireworks on the Mississippi.  Enjoy hamburger sliders and hot dogs with homemade potato chips from Capital City Grill and dance the night away.

USS KIDD'S Fourth of July Spectacular! | July 4, 2017 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

For two decades the USS KIDD has been hosting a 4th of July celebration in the downtown Baton Rouge area.  The evening climaxes with WBRZ’s Fireworks on the Mississippi River.

Honor Our Fallen Heroes This Memorial Day in Baton Rouge

Memorial Day is a time to honor all of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we live today.

You can join in showing them honor with these upcoming Memorial Day events in Baton Rouge.

Monday 

Baton Rouge Concert Band

The Baton Rouge Concert Band will be performing at the North Boulevard Town Square at 7pm.  This is a free event.  They will be playing selections of  American classics and patriotic tunes.

USS Kidd

The USS Kidd is hosting a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony Monday at 10 a.m. The keynote speaker will be Mrs. Kim Graham of St. Martinville, who's son, Private Mark Graham, U.S. Army, died in 2007 of wounds sustained by an IED.

Port Hudson National Cemetery

The Port Hudson National Cemetery invites all to share in placing American flags at the grave sites of fallen veterans. Please bring a tool that can be used to punch holes in the hard ground (e.g. screwdriver). There will also be a Memorial Day ceremony at 11am at the Port Hudson National Cemetery Assembly Area. The cemetery is located at 20987 Port Hickey Road in Zachary.

Java Mama Breakfast with the Bunny
Saturday, April 1st from 9:30am to 11:00am

Indulge in a pancake breakfast and have fun with the egg hunt and visit from the Eater Bunny. Tickets are $10 for children 6 months to 11 months and $15 for children 12 months and older.

Cortana Mall Easter Eggstravaganza
Saturday, April 1st from 10am to noon

This event features an egg hunt, along with face painting, bouncy houses and balloon art.

East Baton Rouge Parish Library Carver Branch Bunny Craft
Tuesday, April 4th from 4:30pm to 5:00pm

Bring your kids from 6-8 years old to the library for a reading of It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny, followed by crafts.

BREC’s Highland Road Park Community Egg Hunt
Saturday, April 8th from 10:00am to Noon

The whole family is invited to join the Bunny for an egg hunt and themed games, along with arts and crafts.
