Stay Safe This Hallows Eve in Baton Rouge!

by Glenda Daughety & Team

All Hallows Eve. A time of treats, fun costumes for the kids and sleepovers with scary stories. It’s also a time to remember a little caution and safety preparation can go a long way for our thrill seeking young ones. Let us give you a few tips for this year’s Halloween in Baton Rouge.

The risk of car accidents with children go up uncomfortably on this eve, so we have a few thoughts on keeping our future generation safe. Firstly, try incorporating reflective tape or stickers into bags and costumes, as well as using face paint, non-toxic of course, instead of visually obstructive masks if possible. Kids certainly find it fun to get your face painted! Also try giving the kids some glow sticks and other little fun glowing things. Not only will it be extra fun added to their costumes, but will help with added visual for drivers.

Children, 12 and under should never be out alone without their parents or an adult to supervise. Also remind the older ones to stay in areas that they are familiar with, are well lit and encourage them to go trick-or-treating with friends. They’ll certainly be up for that!

Try taking a look at this link for a few more tips on safety this Halloween. More importantly, don’t let them forget to have a good time this Halloween in Baton Rouge, Louisiana!

Protect Your Credit From Equifax Breech

by Glenda Daughety & Team

It’s all over the news. The massive data theft of 143 million consumer’s personal data from national credit bureau Equifax has been a topic of much discussion lately.  This is a situation that will affect a lot of lives and could especially affect home buyers and mortgage applicants. Why?

Most Americans with a credit history could be affected. Addresses, Social Security numbers, driver’s license and credit card numbers could all be at risk.  These could be made available to the highest bidders on the Dark Web.

Home buyers and mortgage applicants may be the most at risk, since there is a significant amount of information on file at the credit bureaus. This could cause serious problems down the road, especially during the buying process.

But don’t worry, as you can take steps to protect your identity and credit.  You can lock down your credit files with fraud alerts or credit file freezes, which will prevent people from opening accounts in your name and will prevent them from getting credit reports.

You can protect yourself using the following links:

Yearly Home Maintenance Tips

by Glenda Daughety & Team

As summer comes to a close, it's time to make sure your home is ready for fall and winter in Baton Rouge. Even though the fall and winter months may not be extreme here as far as cold weather is concerned, regular home maintenance is always a good idea. Here's a few tasks that are really easy to do and will help you avoid major repair costs when you least expect them.

Clean and Repair Siding

Make sure the siding doesn't have mold or mildew, and check for rotten and warped areas. You can even use a cell phone or drone to inspect higher areas instead of using a ladder. Inspect the joints for cracks.

Service Yard Equipment

Make sure to service lawn equipment yearly.  If yard equipment sits too long with dirty oil, then it can be harmful to the equipment.  Replace oil, air and gas filters, install new blades, and perform lube and adjustment maintenance per the instruction manual. This can save money in the long run no matter what season it is.

Keep the Chimney Clean

If you have a fireplace, it's always a good idea to clean it regularly.  A dirty chimney can cause fires and carbon monoxide build up.
