Fresh redfish, crab cakes and healthy portions of steak are served up at Sno’s Seafood and Steak.There’s also the Jambalaya Shoppe and Cabela’s Redfish Grill. Not into seafood? Gonzales has plenty of American Cuisine choices including Piccadilly Restaurant and Starlite Espresso Café. Travel along North Airline Highway for other dining options including fast food and Tex-Mex food at Casa Maria.

Parks and Recreation

Best known for its annual Jambalaya Festival, Gonzales offers a variety of outdoor activities for the whole family. Take a dip in the Olympic-sized swimming pool at Jambalaya Park and enjoy a concert or event at the open air amphitheater and gazebo. Honor the local veterans with a contemplative walk around the Ascension Parish Veterans Memorial Park. Avid golfers enjoy year-round golf while they take in 18 or 36 holes at the Pelican Point Golf Community. This 250 acre, semi-private golf course, located just off the banks of the Mississippi River, offers a British-style course along with a driving range and target greens. Located inside the Houmas House Plantation Gift Shop, the River Region Art Gallery shows and sells a variety of original folk art, photography and jewelry from area artists. River Region Art Association also offers classes and hosts monthly festivals.


With a relatively low crime rate and lower cost of living than the national average, residents of Gonzales enjoy the short drives to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. With this close proximity to larger cities and enjoyable lifestyle, the area has experienced a 19% growth spurt since 2000. For healthcare options in Gonzales, St. Elizabeth Hospital offers surgery, a cancer center, and outpatient services, along with nutritional services and an intensive care unit. Promise Hospital of Baton Rouge offers extended care for patients and loved ones who need a longer recovery time after surgery. Ascension Health offers spiritually centered healthcare and ministries to residents of Gonzales.

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is a short 30 minute drive on Interstate 10 from Gonzales and offers domestic flights across the country. For ground travelers, Amtrak has a limited-service station in Baton Rouge.
