The Southwood Park and Playground is home to the Ascension Fast Pitch Association and features a basketball court, barbecue pavilion and playground. The Lamar Dixion Expo Center is just a short drive away in Gonzales and is home to many of the concerts, conventions and festivals in Ascension Parish. This "crown jewel of Louisiana's River Road" sits on 38 acres of lush gardens and ponds and is surrounded by majestic trees. Located just 17 miles from Baton Rouge, this small community offers quiet neighborhoods, good schools and convenient access to large city amenities. The population of Prairieville has increased by over 50% in 20 years and continues to grow. If incorporated, it would be the largest city in Ascension Parish. There is no public transportation system in Prairieville but the Capital Area Transit System serves nearby Zachary with bus routes to Baton Rouge. Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is a short drive from Prairieville and offers domestic flights across the country. For ground travelers, Amtrak has a limited-service station in Baton Rouge.
