Parks and Recreation
A variety of sporting and leisure activities keep the residents of Zachary moving and active. The Zachary Youth Park is home to baseball, softball and football facilities along with two soccer fields and a half-mile walking track. Plans for 12 new parks are in the works on a 40-acre piece of land on Zachary Community Park. The park currently offers running and walking trails, and both dog and skate parks.
Drawing students from all over the world, Bennett's WaterSki School teaches world-class lessons in ski, wakeboard, and inflatable water toy competition. It also plays host to regional and national competitions.
If staying on dry land is a better idea of a good time, Zachary is home to two golf courses. Located near fields of native grasses and century-old oak trees, Copper Mill Golf Course is a “links style” course similar to those in Scotland. Beaver Creek on the Plains has a driving range, putting green and chipping green along with a scenic view of local wetlands.
With a variety of restored homes, exhibits and historical programs, The Zachary Historic Village provides a glimpse into life during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Three historic homes are open for tours along with entertainment and educational opportunities.
Take a road trip and learn about local history at Port Hudson State Park. This historic landmark, just a short drive on Highway 61, is home to one of the many Civil War battlefields. Monthly battle reenactments and educational opportunities are available at this historic site with other historical sites and parks just a short driving distance away.
Just 14 miles north of Baton Rouge, Zachary was among a handful of Louisiana cities with the highest annual household income in 2011. Schools, Health, Transportation
Ranked #1 for the past 7 years in school district performance, the Zachary Community School District is amongst the top performing schools districts in the state. Three public elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school are located within Zachary along with a handful of private schools. A variety of higher education options are within driving distance including Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge Community College and Southern University Law Center.
Lane Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in Zachary and it provides a variety of services and care including cardiovascular care, an offsite nursing home, surgery and a variety of other in and outpatient services.
There is no public transportation in Zachary and the closest airport is Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport which offers domestic flights. Baton Rouge also has an Amtrak Station which is just a short drive away.
